I've put aftermarket cruise kits on several vehicles and all have worked well and all but one had everything needed (after purchase while reading the instructions, I found I had to purchase an additional throttle linkage kit for my particular vehicle). If you get one from a donor truck be sure to get all the components. If it is off an automatic transmission truck and yours is a manual transmission you'll need to obtain a clutch switch somewhere to go on the clutch pedal. The wiring harness is the same, but there is a jumper in the clutch switch connector on auto models.

I ran numerous after-market cruise controls on my '76 window van and two on Clyde before I installed an OEM from a donor '82 truck. OEM is the only way to go. I stripped everything from the complete steering column to the two-piece speedometer cable. It works well and wasn't hard to do, pretty much a bolt-on conversion. If you do some searchs you'll find quite a bit of good information on how to get it done.

My F-250 cruise controll has not worked in years. When you press on the set button, the beast just keeps accelerating and it has to be turned off. Any advice would help.

Thanks!

Clean all contacts on speed control switches with contact cleaner (Ace Hardware or Radio Shack) and burnish contacts with a piece of thin cardboard. Never file or use abrasive. Switch contacts should close when switch is depressed, open when released. Check the 680 Ohm resistor (color coded Blue-Gray-Brown) connected to the Set/Accl switch. Should read 680 +/- 34 Ohms. If not the problem then likely in the internal feedback potentiometer (variable resistor) portion of the Speed Control Servo (ball shaped unit under hood that activates the throttle). Disassemble and check; the potentiometer should read 50,000 Ohms end-to-end and 0-50,000 Ohms from one end to center when shaft is rotated (reading smoothly with no jumps). Bad news-usually can't find new replacement internal parts for Speed Control Servo. Good news-lots of Speed Control Servos in junkyards in FOMOCO cars as well trucks of this era; I think they are all electrically the same but may differ in mounting and other mechanical ways.

Wouldn't an eraser work too?

Thanks a mil! I have several junk yards in my area that I can check for the part. I will check the speed control electronics and servo when I get my new turn signal cam replaced.

Thanks again Piffery1 for all the help and excellant info on what to check (ohms and all). That stuff is easy to check.
