Wow, the V10s faster than...

Just bought a '99 F250 SC LB 4x4 V10 for towing my boat and damn, i laid into her on the freeway 3/4 throttle and i was stunned at the acceleration. Ive had hot rods and drag raced for years, so im not new to power. Impressive. I wanna race my bros 04 Cummins, whadda you think? Those V10 diesel owning bashers that say the V10s a dog, has obviously never driven one.

The 99's were the doggiest of the batch.......that being said, empty I'd still maybe pick the V10 over the Cummins 0-60 if you're both running empty and stock.

Start pulling some serious weight and the Cummins will walk you.

I think that modern diesels and V10's are teaching a lot of people about the difference between horsepower and torque.

unload and stock to stock, i would expect the V10 to win, i would even wager the V10 to win on the freeway with a load if the rpms are up, but from a stop, with a load, the diesel is my choice. Horsepower is what will get ya going fast, torque is what is going to move you off the line

Is the Cummins a stick or a slushbox?
What gears does it have?

Do you have any modifications, and more to the point, does he?

Welcome to the BSEG club... yes they are impressive motors even the 290HP version you have. I would not pick a fight with your "bros" 04 Cummins but I would not run away from a challenge if he presents it.

Mostly it would come down to technique, cheating, traction, and type race...stop light to stop light 500 yard or so the V10 probably accelerates a tad faster but if the driver of the Cummins knows his ca ca then he can eat your lunch there also. Just by power loading the turbo with brakes set before the launch and he will not have the lag that lets you get out front. But if he be sissy boy, with no drag race or turbo experience, he is easy to sucker!

The 1999 F-250's had a 275hp V-10, not?

I have seen both 275HP and 290HP listed in the different guides Probably the Van vs Truck

The 05s were initially listed at 347HP and by production time revised up to 362HP

Just a bunch of Advertising hype really who knows under what conditions and factors

We all know that Engine Dyno specs are only a way to describe a relevant idea of difference

In this case the pre Upgrade to "PI" heads in V10 motors before 2001 were less power than the 2001 to 2004 upgraded versions.

And of course the 2005 change to 3v V10 heads (with many other modifications) is supposed to have 362HP but that is NOT to say ALL 2005 V10 have 362HP motor because the E-250 E-350 vans still get the 2v V10 motor

some V-10's

seem to be looser, or freer or something. I've told this story many times, but my V-10, as opposed to my bro-in-laws 5 pick-ups, all with 99+up V-10's is a different animal. Back in the early 70's Kawasaki came out with a 500cc two stroke triple motorcycle. At the time it was the undisputed king of acceleration. A mere flick of the throttle and it would rev to 6 grand, it was unlike anything else available. Revving my motor and then doing the same to the V-10's my bro-in-law has reminds me of that Kawasaki.

I don't know that your V-10 will beat the CTD, I know I would find out, but that's me. I do know a V-10 won't beat a turbocharged Subaru with the WRX motor, but I had to find that out too. I haven't been beat by a diesel, I may, but as of yet I have not. My boss has a hot rod 6.0 PSD with Banks this, and Power-pack that, but his truck is back in the shop, waiting for another turbo, so uh, yea, maybe at some other time, if he can get it running for long enough we'll see.

Getting beat isn't a disgrace, failing to try ? Not my call,,,,,,,Ken

I traded my 750 H2 triple that I bought new at Tacoma Kawasaki for a brand new Z1b KZ900.... I still miss the triple! But not the attention of the Thurston County Sherrif.... all he had to do was lay back and follow my blue smoke trail up to the trailer...bummer .....got three tickets on my own front porch!

Never heard of denco But I did take off the Three into Three exhaust briefly to try out a set of tuned expansion pipes my dealer got his hands on...

If you know anything about getting a two stroke "Up On The Pipe" you will know that this is a REAL bad idea! and it was ...I gave them back after the weekend of TERROR!

The H-1, the 500 was quoted at the time as "a rooster with it's tail on fire". When Suzuki came out a couple years later with their 3 cyl, 2 stroke, water pumper, commonly referred to as the 'water buffalo' I had to have one. It went through several iterations, a fairinged, saddlebagged tourer, an extended forked, psychedelic painted chopper, and then finally a clip-on bar, rearset footpeg, ported, re-carbed, triple expansion chambered crotch rocket. The negatives of the Kaw 500 was the giant hinge right in the middle of it where the swing-arm bolted to the frame. But oh buddy, on a straight, smooth piece of road that dude was magical. The 750 was faster but not near is lithe and sleek looking. The 900 4 stroke was amazing for it's day, the 'beefsteak' it was called. It too had a hinge in the middle but it was badder than bad in 440 yds.
