I was just reading and found out that the thrust bearings for the FE motors are different. 58-63 are different from a 64.

does anyone know about this and how much different?

In '64 they went to a wider thrust bearing. Early ones can be used in a later block, but later ones cannot be used in an earlier block.

What year is your block?

Pre-'64 engines use a .465" flange thrust bearing. Later engines use a .535" thrust bearing.

I don't think it would have went in if it were wrong. Do you have the old thrust bearing to compare to?

The kit you have might have the old style bearing possibly. Not sure. Is it a federal mogul bearing? The old F/M I have here out of the 63 406 have: fm 2304 CP BO stamped in them. This is off the thrust bearing. I'd be certain you have the correct bearing. It does sound like it fits ok though. G.
