Smile Want some free CHROME EMBLEMS?????

Do you want those nice looking chrome F-250, F-350 and V10 emblems, but don't want to fork out the money or the hassle of taking off the old emblems.
I learned this trick from another V10'er who had chrome emblems. Ford being nice chromed the whole emblem, then painted them black were they needed it.
The trick is to 1: Tape off the surrounding area around the emblems, so not to ruin your paint. 2: Grab a box of Q-tips and some nail polish remover or brake cleaner (brake cleaner worked better). 3: Drench the Q-tip and start removing the black paint. If you have the XLT or Lariant the red letters are harder to take off than the black. So if you want to keep the red letters just go slow and lightly over them. You'll have to go over the emblems a couple of times with the nail polish remover or brake cleaner to get the black off. 4: Once the black is off wipe the emblems off with some glass cleaner. The emblems will look all smugded but don't worry. 5: Grab some aluminium wheel polish and go to town then enjoy. You just saved $100-$200 and the hassle of taking off the old emblems and trying to line up the new ones. Hope this little trick helps.

Try Acetone, quart can local hardware store takes the paint off real quick. I used a hair dryer to heat the emblems up and then pulled them off leaving the tape backing still on the vehicle. Put some acetone in a tin pan, take an old tooth brush and scrub the paint off clean up with a rag and then stick the emblem back on the tape backing that is still in place on the vehicle.

Before you think you reinvented the wheel you might want to do a little research. I'm sure you would have found alot of threads on acetoning your badges and pictures of trucks with them done. You can go to my gallery because I did every one of mine. Carb cleaner works the best, much better than brake cleaner and faster.

I no the ARMY taught me not to assume so,I'm just going to use my gut feeling and say that "1badSD" was just putting it out here with good intensions.

Easy kids, some times it's a not a bad thing to bring some tips up from the past.
On the other hand, just because "you" have a new super duty, remember a lot of us have had them since 99, so a lot of this stuff is old hat.

I wasn't trying to reinvent the wheel. If you had read the original post I said I got the tip from another person and decided to pass on the information on how to put some bling to your truck without spending the cash. The ARMY also taught me you shouldn,t hold information that could help your peers. And by the posts I received I did that. I apoligize if I had hurt anybody's feelings

I have read about acetoning the badges in the past but had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the reminder. I think I will do mine this weekend.

I too had forgotten about the badges.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride!

When I bought my new 2005 F-250XL, some of the paint was comming off the letters. Dealer said they would be replaced under warranty if I wanted. I decided to wait and decided if I wanted to replace later. The first tome I washed truck with a pressure warher, most of the black paint came off. It will all likely come off the next wash or so.
