Chevy......book shows the no 3-4 shift as TPS, VSS, SS1/SS2 solenoids. RE electrical inputs, vehicle wiring harness, PCM. Check connections closely........

Check all the trans electrical connections especially the one on the right side with the tin cover, remove the tin heat shield, remove the solenoid connector by pushing on the center tab and pulling up on the wireharness. Installation push down until audible click is heard. Always reinstall the tin heat shield.

Thanks PL, my TPS tests good, I checked my connections and they look fine, but I'll check them again to be sure. My VSS is only about a month or two old, but I guess that doesn't really mean much. Is there a way to test these?
And the SS1/SS2 Solenoids, where are these? In the tranny? Is that what that connector on the right side plugs into?

tag, welcome to FTE. What are you using to check the codes. It seems odd that you have four trucks with the same problem. What are the other trucks? How are the trucks running. Any problems with anything?

Okay, I’ll share my “fix” here in case it helps anyone else in the future.
As I described earlier my E40D was not shifting into OD, truck would wind out to max RPM just to do 70 in 3rd. My TPS and VSS are both new/recent. Nothing wrong with my engine speed, (RPM), sensor, but I swapped it out in desperation anyway. I checked and cleaned all the electrical connections for the tranny. Fluid and filter change about 5K ago.
Nothing helped at all. I’m not a believer in additives, snake oils, I’ve had very little luck with them over the years, but at this point I had nothing to lose. I went to AutoZone and looked over the various auto-tranny additives and discovered one made by Lucas. We all know Lucas to be a good brand for fleet use and on the bottle it claimed that you’d notice the difference on the first drive. Said it rejuvenated old fluids, stopped slipping bands, and some other stuff I don’t recall right now. I bought it, $9, and added it according to instructions, (with engine idling). Darned if the problem was gone the first drive. That was last Friday and I’ve put 150+ miles on it and transmission is working perfect.
I realize that if my transmission actually has mechanical problems that I may be just masking over them right now with the additive, but I’m buying time anyway.

hey ever one.The problem that i found was the relay harness. The wires pulled apart inside some how and i found the problem by stupid luck i was laying over the top of the engine and i bumped the switch and it fell out of the harness so i put it back on and to my suprise i found the wire problem changed the harness i just cut it out of my parts truck and its as good as new heat shrink and solider and i was on my way.
