misfiring

I just bought a '99 3.0 ranger and find that it breaks down on high load/high vacuum accelleration, like at low rpm in high gear .It also skips slightly at idle. cruising at low loads it's fine.Acceleration flattens out in lower gears.I doubt the truck has had much care , and I plan to start with plugs, filters etc and got the basics done. any suggestions? Thanks, John

If you're going to do plugs, then do the wires at the same time. Also, don't forget about the fuel filter.

Welcome to FTE!

I recommend Motorcraft or Autolite premium spark plugs. Like droptop says, do the wires, too, and change out the fuel filter.

I also suggest cleaning Your MAF Sensor.

Good luck with your new Ranger.

Thanks for the tips, this is a great site. I changed the plugs and now it's fine, but I still plan to go through it all.I bought the car on e-bay for $3500.00 it's a '99 4wd in fine shape, 110k, rims, sharp looking truck, I think the dealer wanted to dump it because of the misfiring.
