Removing Kingpin

Removing Kingpin
The following is a quote from an article on this site:
"At the top and bottom of the radius arms there are grease fittings - remove them. Half way between them there is a horizontal bolt that holds the king pin in place - remove it."
So knock the horizontal bolt out after removing the tap, and unthread the grease fittings? Then just heat, beat and knock out the old kingpins?
'76 F-100 w/powersteering as a donor for my '65 disc brake conversion.
Keeping manual steering and using a manul dual bowl mastercylinder.
I "think" that I read somewhere that you have to change the steering linkage to a model that had manual steering and disc brakes since the tie rod bolts aren't long enough on the slick '60s trucks for use on the new spindles, is this true?
Thanks for replies to a never ending topic.

Yes, remove the upper and lower caps and that tapered bolt. Remove the nut and tap the bolt out. Then remove tie rod ends and all the brakes. Take a large drift pin and knock out the king pin. If the donor front end is worn, it may fight you. As you say, beat, heat hammer the P**s out of it as you're going to get the new kingpins and bushings fitted to the spindles.

On my 65 f-100 I did the swap to discs and I used steering arms from a 76
f-100 donor . The 76 was a power steering truck, but my 65 is manual steer
they did bolt right up, I remember reading that you can use the stock arm,
but you have to grind 1/8 inch top side around the tie rod end hole ,you may
want to take another look at the artical (there are two articals) one compliments the other, you may also do a search when I was doing the swap
I did search though pages of threads it seems like I remember some where
in the pages of threads I searched that I read that the steering could bind
so if you try the power steering arms check that there is no ( bind ) because
after reading that it hit me the next day so I went back and looked for it with
no luck!
P.S I wanted the newer steering arms because I do remember reading that
if you plan on power steering in the near future you will need the arms!

I did the disc conversion on my 66 using parts from a 74. I used a ton of heat to get the king pin out and it still didn't work so I ended up cutting them out with a plasma cutter. I had already bought new lowered I-beams so I didn't care that I had to wreck the 74 I-beams, but just wanted to point out that my king pins didn't come out easily. I also used the 74 steering linkage with my manual steering in the 66 and with the lowered I-beams there was no binding or interference.
