Question 76 power assist

I need some help. Is anyone familar with the power assist unit on a 76 Ford F250 4x4 Hiboy. Mine is leaking. I understand you can not get parts to rebuild these realitively easy units. Reconditioned ones are expensive. Are there any other solutions? Thanks...............Alan

I used a rack and pinion unit from a 76 Mustang Cobra. Had to mod the ends though so it woud reach and then modded the knuckles for the ends to connect to.

Power Steering Box installed

Alan,

There are several ways to convert your power assist to power steering. Check the photo galleries on this site under 1967 F250 4x4, I recently did a power steering swap on my 1967 F250 Crewcab 4x4. The pictures will pretty much tell the whole story. Also, there is a guy up in Alaska that did one of these swaps but used a p/s box out of a 78/79 F250 4x4. His truck is a 70 or 72 and he posted the pics of the swap in the photo galleries as well. It's worth a look. In addition, go to ebay and type in "highboy steering" on the search line and you can find several kits that people make and sell to do p/s swaps.
