bad fuel pressure regulator ?????

that is what i have been my bronco II 1989 is running rich and i mean like a cloud behind me rich raw fuel in the exhaust and everyone says that the fuel pressure regulator is busted and running to high. Does this sounds right and also where the heck is the fuel pressure regulator located on this motor thanks in advance.

Not sure if they moved the FPR on the '89 2.9, but on my '87, the FPR is at the rear of the fuel rail. 1st check for a bad FPR is to pull the vacuum line (after running the engine) to the FPR and see if there is gas in there. Gas = bad FPR. 2nd step is to put a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail and see what the pressure is.

A clogged return line can also cause high fuel pressure.
