Would it be ok to put a glasspac

on my inline 6, and will it make it sound anything like an 8 cyl with a glasspac on it? I know it won't sound AS GOOD, but will it be better than the quiet stock muffler?

It will make it louder but the 6 has one of those sounds where you either like it or hate it, so try not to destroy the old muffler or pipe as you may just want to put it back. It will sound more like a straight piped Cummins minus the turbo if you really want somthing to compare it too.

Well, it will sound like it has a glasspack but your best bet to get better sound would be to start with a high flow cat, and bigger pipe. 2.5" should be about right and it should be pretty loud, if it is the EFI 300 6 you could go true 2" duals if laws permit.

I've seen (heard) these little ole cars that a lot of kids have, and even some V8's, that have these big ole pipes on them to make them sound like hot rods, and I don't like that sound at all. Is this the louder sound you're talking about with the cat, etc?

With a single glasspack you will get a fairly deep rumble but as I said you have to refer to a straightpiped dodge with a cummins, if you go to flowmaster's website you should be able to find a clip of a cummins with thier system and that shuld give you some idea. its hard to explain the sound, i'm amazed that noone else has said anything yet.

I guess that everyone's outta town for the Holiday.... anyway, I hope that's it. I know what you mean about trying discribe sound. I just don't like a frappy noise when you let up on the gas peddle, or that big ole huge deep hollow pipe noise I mentioned. I was reading about someone wanting to put headers and duel pipes on an inline 6. I don't want to go THAT far but I was amazed that it could be done on a 6. I just want something that sounds hotter than the nothing that I hear now, without it sounding like a tinker toy. I wish they had a sound button on this forum.

actually, www.exhaustsoundclips.com might have somthing for you. If you stick with the stock pipe size and put one on it will be louder but not much, a new system with bigger pipe will let you have some sound and help performance.

Thanks for all your advice, and the link. I'll check it out if I can get this old computer to download the dealy bob to make the sounds. I don't get along with these machines very well. LOL.

I got a 300 with 2.5" pipes, 24" glasspack, and it then splits to 4"x24" tips. Both cats removed, and I made my own Y-pipe with a small chamber to combine the 2 manifolds. I like the sound, real loud real deep rumble right above idle, and at real high revs, but not too loud between there.

I saw a truck today that had these big (what looked like to be around) 4 or 6 inch pipes that seemed to be stuck on the end of his stock sized pipes. When he first started to take off it gave a nice low rumble, but when the rpms picked up it sounded terrible.

When I had a 2.8 FI 6 cyl Chevy stationwagon many years ago, I put a cherry bomb muffler on it and it didn't sound half bad. Is a cherry bomb simular to a glasspack?

Was it an oval muffler or straight through (kinda like a big pipe 4" or so, with small ends) Because cherry bombs come in a turbo muffler (oval) or a glasspack which is straight through. I have an '88 Celebrity station wagon that i ran a 2.25" Purple Hornie glasspack into 2 short 2" pipes with 3" tils on it, that had a decent sound but LOUD. Here is a link to thier site...
www.supremeperformance.com That will show you the designs and then I'll know what you had. But if you liked what you had on the 2.8 throw one on the 300, it will be somewhat similar.

It was the red cherry bomb like #87510, though was probably about 30 inches long.
