Bucking Truck

Before I detune , I wanted to find out if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on this problem .
Cruzin between 60 - 70 mph when I barely press on the gas pedal to accelerate the truck bucks and a puff of black smoke comes out of the tail pipe . It bucks about every second . 04 f350 psd on 35" tires 6" lift 65 hp Predator and everything else is stock .
This has just started about 4 days ago .
Predator went in @ 8000 miles and I have a little over 18K now .

TIA

Smile Drop it down a gear

Does the problem go away if you floor it or drop down a gear.
My truck has done this since new with 35's on it. My problem has almost gone away, now that I regeared to 4.30's putting my shift and power band back closer to stock.

Hope this helps

iisaforddriver...It does go away if the truck downshifts into a lower gear .

I took the Pred out and now it happens between 40-50 mph .

Funny, my truck just started doing the same thing, but it is at any speed when the RPM's drop below 1300, and I lightly press on the gas. Last night it almost caused me to get into an accident. My truck starts cutting out, and the rpms will drop to 900, and no matter how much I stand on the gas, it does not go for at least 10-15seconds.

I have an Edge and AFE Intake on an 04PSD with 15,000 miles. I set the edge to 0, and it still does it.

Any Suggestions??

Vinlsol, is your truck an automatic? Could be a torque converter issue, my Jeep did that before the convertor failed. Both times

gromer - Yes it is an automatic, a new one at that. At 14K Miles the tranny went out (Due to the Recall) and it was so bad that Ford replaced it with a new one.

I could see the TQ Converter, but it appears to miss and stumble worse, the more gas I give it, and it is acting like a Fuel, Boost, Problem?? What gets me....is that after about 10-15 seconds, it cleans up and starts running perfect, almost like someone switched the truck off, then on.

Well I didn't make it to the dealer , but now the problem has gone away .
Before I took the Pred out I did notice that I had two faults P0299 turbo underboost and P0404 exhaust gas recirculation control circuit . I'm not sure what these codes actually means .
Later this week I will see if there are any faults and may put the Pred back in to see what happens .

I think you starting to see the symptoms of the dreaded Rhomps/Surges syndrom. Look into the recent recall regarding the FICM wiring harness and ICP sensor. I think your problem will only get worse soon. It seems to start that way. Mine will surge at any speed at no particular time just when if feels like it. It is at it's worse in rushhour traffic, it will surge and you have to really mind the brake pedal or you are going to rear-end someone or it will begin a stall situation while puffing black/grey smoke out the pipe. Then out of the blue, it goes away and runs like spanked dog again. The funny thing is it never does this while I am pulling a load like my 9k# travel trailer. Mine is a 2004 PSD 4x4 Excursion. Mine is in right now being diagnosed for the 3rd or 4th time regarding this. Good Luck!

gawent,
Has the dealer been able to duplicate your problem? Mine did exactly what you described and it was a faulty ICP-
