Hey, I'm looking for a good mechanic to do a ball joint, u joint and alignment on my 86. I also need exhaust work, and i'd like to have my EFI stuff looked at, as i get terrible mpg.

I'm guessing from the signature that your name is Ryan? Well, I'm Ralph and I live in Deer Park. I've been a mechanic for the past 17 years, and I presently do that in addition to my regular job. I have a few ways I can help you, namely with the ball joint/front end, driveline, and EFI stuff. For the alignment and exhaust, I have two VERY competent shops that you'll be happy with. A couple questions- Other than the MPGs, are you having any other driveability problems, i.e. hesitation, surging, loss of power/pickup, etc.? How is your driving style- meaning, do you like to lay into the truck, pushing its parameters, or are you more easy on your takeoffs, turns, and stopping? You can be honest here as it will help me to best advise you in the repairs. Regarding the driveline/u-joints, what syptoms are you having? Any "clunking"? How about any under-vehicle rapid, short-burst "train whistle" sounds as you accelerate? Finally, how do you know you need front end attention? Any vehicle wander during highway driving or while braking? Excessive noise over road bumps? Please tell me anything I missed.
