460 used in drag racing feed back
I have a 460 out of a lincoln in a short wheel base 67 f100.
most of the people on these fourums use there 460's for off roading. I plan on using mine on the strip/street and i was wondering if i could get some feed back on what kind of chances i would have . and how i should set my truck up for it right now every thing is stock except for the motor trans shifter and drive shaft.

the 460, and it's variations get used in all kinds of applications where people want power. It's a great motor to build into a drag motor. You just need to make acouple of decisions:
1. how much do you want to spend?
2. how much truck do you still want in your truck? (all track, street/strip, mostly street, daily driver/work truck)

If you are consistent, yuo can race and win all day long... If you are looking for a guestimate at what your truck will run, I'll chime in. If everything is pretty much stock, maybe even mildly built, depending on the rear gears and how well your truck will "hook up", an average run would be in the 13.5 - 15 range. Gtex's truck is a monster and running low 13's. There are a few guys running some stout drag trucks and they are dippping slightly lower. Of course you need to take into consideration several things including weight, aerodynamics or lack there-of, track conditions, altitude It's all a guess until you take it to the track and have some fun.

gtex and MikeG are correct, with enough money and time anything will go fast. My 77 shortbed 4x4 has a 460 (bored and stroked to 508cid) with a Doug Nash 5-speed, 3:50 gears with Detroit Locker, 33" tires. It runs consistent 13.88 1/4 mile times at Bandameir in 2 wheel drive, borrowed a set of slicks for a few passes and dropped that time to 13.07. Know it would run even faster if it had the proper weight distribution, I have to feather the throtle for the first two hundred feet to limit wheel spin. You have to decide how you want it to perform, and how much you are willing to spend to get there. Good Luck
