long stroke cranks
High74, Yes, there are 4 and 1/2 inch stroke cranks available. They are carved out of a chunk of billet and are horrifically exspensive. How much clearancing, if any you need to do to run one, I'm not sure. I would imagine you might need a reduced base circle cam and capscrew rods to make it work. VERY big money. Do you really need that much stroke ? Your 390 has 3.784 stroke now. You can offset grind and get 4.00 easily. You can also purchase a new crank from Scat that has 3.98 or 4.00 or 4.125 or 4.250 stroke. Mickey Thompson used to sell cast cranks with a 4.405 stroke, and Ford made some 4.385 stroke cranks for the Starlifter project. But that was back in the early 60s. The Scat cranks are around now, and for about 600$. Street Rodder built a stroker 390 with a 4.125 crank that was making an easy 520 lbs-ft of torque without any trouble at all. One of the fellows on the net54 forum built a 390 with the 4.250. He used aftermarket capscrew rods that had a 2.200 big end. He loves it. DF, @ his Dad's house

But your larger bore will help it breathe better plus you can run larger valves without notching the bore. Now a 4.375" square motor (526) would be great but it might suffer from emphysema unless there are some good flowing heads and intake to install. I'm stuck on 482", want 600 tq, 425-440 hp.

My Big Cobra (motor) build is 385 base block (D1VE) with a 4.390" bore with a 4.300" stroke...and it should work just fine!!
