Oil pan Gasket replace question
I have 1979 F150 4x4 with a 300 6cy. The oil pan gasket is hanging out and I have a major oil leakage, oil runs all over the front axle and down the oil pan and sprays on the transfer case and soaks the driver side wheel. Can I drop the pan enough to pull the old gasket and install a new one with out tilting the motor as described in the chilton manual ?

i could in my 85' not sure about a 79 though.
It was pretty easy. I also put new bearing is while i was down there.
A tip with the pan gasket: THe rear piece put some RTV on it and put it on the block where it is supposed to sit. Otherwise it will fall into the pan and is a pain to get seated right.

I was able to remove the oil pan from my 81 van's I-6 without disconnecting the motor mounts. I did have the transmission out and the radiator out and had to disconnect the oil pump pickup (long extension worked fine) before I removed the pan (It needed painting). However I could have replaced the gasket without all that.
