Illinois License/insurance question

I need to get a license and insurance on my 78 f100. In the state of Illinois, can I get a license without having proof of insurance? I know they were talking about passing this law, never heard whether they have or not.I can get the license tomorrow, but I won't be able to get insurance until monday when I can call from work, and i won't be able to get the license during the week because will be working to late. thanks for the help,Ben

The local Sec of State office has bever asked me for proof of insurance on any vehicle. But, this a Sec of State office, in which I know every lady working there, and have been dealing with for many years. So YMMV..

UNLESS, you have already been nailed for operating without proof of insurance, then you may have some problems.
