Indianapolis Area

Ok everyone. My company is offering an account managers position in our corperate office.(Located on Post road cross roads 465/70) Any tips on good school system, good property tax areas. Where to live not to live. Any advice you can give. I live in Laporte county now and its pretty affordable. The Indianapolis area is higher cost of living than Laporte. I will take everybodys tips and advice. I just need to know more about the area before choosing where to live for the next several years. Thanks for any help. Ron

I live in the southeast corner of 465. It is a quite little town, good schools, decent taxes etc.. I have coworkers that live outside the belt on the east side as well as the south side.
I guess it depends on how far of a commute you want?

Thanks Snowfighter,

I was in Indy this past weekend with a relocation specialist.(what ever that is) Anyway she was very knowledgable of the area. And of course we loved a home in knightstown(straight east on I-70). Taxes were $1628.00 Semi. Ouch!!!!!!! Mine are cheaper for the whole year where I'm at now. Looks like $2,000.00 a year is common taxes around the area.

That is a relief to here Snowfighter. My corperate office is at I-70 and I-465. Actually on post road within a stone throw of I-70/I-465. And I would like to stay within a 30 min commute. So I do have a lot of areas to look at. I like the sound of your taxes. I need a 1 story home do to health conditions. Anything like that in your area. Thanks for the info.

Yes there are single story homes in my area. I live in beechgrove 1 mile from I465 and 3 miles from I65. I like it because its a quite area and home prices are reasonable.

I live on the west side of greenwood in White River Township of Johnson Co
I work at 30th and Shadeland on the East Side My comute is about 30 Minutes.
Center Grove Schools are great, My taxes are little high, but great neigborhood.
I would stay away from Fishers / Castleton Area Expensive, crowded and over built
other than that its pretty much open.
What company?

Caito Foods , INC. Full Service Produce Supplier. Thanks for the info. We fell in love with this home in Knightstown about 25minutes east on I-70. Not sure I could stomach the $1,628.00 semi-tax though???????? There is not much on the market in Indy. At least in a single story home with over a 1/2 acre of property. I will keep looking. I am going to check that Greenwood area tonight. Thanks again.

Thank you to all for your advise and help offered. I had my finale meeting Thursday in the office to hammer out all the finacials. And guess what? We decided that it was in my (and families) best interest to stay were I'm at. The offer was not enough to make the move. We are very close with our family and friends. What good is a little more money if your not happy. Now if it was a ton of money the heck with the friends and family. Just kidding!!!! I'm glad we are staying. Thank you again.

I just noticed that you are from Laporte, my company does a lot of work for Howmet. I haven't been to the plant yet, but have dealt w/a lot of the engineers there. Probably only a matter of time before I make the trek there myself.
