A/C coolant leak: shop can't find it
Our 2000 Excursion has been in the shop 10 times in the past few months on a persistant A/C problem. It keeps loosing the freon (R32 or whatever). They found a leak where the hose went into the condensor; replaced condensor, but it's still leaking. It'll hold coolant for about two days, then it's all gone. There's no sign of the dye anywhere. They've even filled it with shop air and sat in silence trying to listen for a leak, all to no avail. The shop I take it to is the local garage, and they're first rate. They've been more than fair. However, they're giving up on it and as much as they hate to do it are suggesting I take it to the Ford Dealership.
Anyone know of problematic leak areas? I don't want to spend a fortune with Ford getting this thing fixed, nor do I want it in the shop any more.
Thanks,
Todd

Firstford,
I had a leak on my X , but if was easier to find, there are two units the one in the rear where the jack is, I found my line ( high pressure freon) was rubbing every bump I hit in the road it would rub...took the line off myself and had a aluminum welder spot it and reinstalled and recharged.

I'm suspecting a rear line, as they've replaced all the O-rings under the hood. I really wish this problem would go away. Sharing one car when the X is in the shop is not so much fun. (The car is fun; my 1976 Jaguar XJ6L with a supercharged Ford 302 under the hood (bonnet), Holly fuel injection and a C6 transmission.) We're kind of a 1-1/2 Ford family.
