Anyone tried chrome moly axles in a D44?
My brother-in-law just bought an 85 F150 lifted with 40s. We took it out Saturday to try it out and he was in some snotty mud spinning hard when his drivers side front tire hit a stump. Both axle yokes at the joint were destroyed. He would like to upgrade to a better axle shaft, so my question is: does anyone here have experience with aftermarket cro-mo shafts for a D44? Is there a dramatic difference in strength over stock in this size? Maybe nothing would have stood up to this kind of shock, but I don't know.
His set up is a 400, C6, 208, 9inch rear, straight 44 in front. While I think his tires are too big for this combo, and feel like a D60/D70 combo would be best; he doesn't want to do that type of upgrade just yet.
Thanks in Advance,
Ernie
