Question Backup lights

Is there a way to put a switch in one of these old transmissions to make back up lights turn on when the transmission is in reverse? We have a Warner T98 4 speed.

I don't know how you could do it on a top-shifter, unless you can get access to the shifter rails.

I thought that the T-98 had a back-up switch on top of the shifter cover just like the T-18; but I could be wrong.

I have a '56 F-250 with the T-98 and a '85 F-150 with a T-18. Would a shifter cover from a T-18 with the reverse light switch substitute for the T-98 cover? I'm not sure they are similar enough to allow interchange of the shifter covers, but 'll bet someone here will know. If they won't interchange, could the T-98 cover be drilled and tapped to allow installation of the reverse light switch?

Good luck.

you don't need backup lights if you have a solid rear bumper....

I ahven't looked, could put a backup switch on a T-18 using the top shift linkage. There are three rods on top that move with the shift lever. Does one move back with reverse only? Use a small switch and a relay.

Just take a micro switch with roller lever or one of the mechanical brake light switches that work off the brake pedal lever and mount it so that it works off the Reverse shift rod or lever - should be enough room under a shifter boot or between the tunnel and the boot to mount a small switch. Just a thought!
