Scratched dashboard

I had a new windshield put in my truck. The glass guy must of scratched the dashboard on my 04 lariat. Its scratched on the far left side where the dash is a greyish silver. Has anyone had a scratch and had it removed on the dash. Where it is scratched is actually part of the whole dashboard. Can anyone help me? It bugs me everytime I drive it.

I don't know much about fixing plastic scratches, all though, I have done it with shoe polish and a rubbing cloth. Match the color, and 'sorta' fill the scratch with the shoe polish, then buff it in. Autozone etc. also carry plastic or vinal patch kits, that might work.
That is not what I would do here.

When you say left side, You are talking about the drivers side? The cowl?
That's the curved piece that goes over the speedo? or the place to the left of it? All these panels pop out and can be replaced. And they can pay for it, if they scratched it.

The panel that surrounds the light switch pops off. The panel above it, the same color, that goes out to the Vin number, pops off. What part?

You can try using heat to hide the sctratch. Use a small torch very, very lightly. If it glooses it up use a very fine 3M scuff pad to dull the surface down to the right amount of gloss.

I vote with transam. Why should you fix what they messed up?? I would definitely take it back in and ask for free buffing.

Careful buffing, if its done wrong you will lose the texture in the plastic and have a shiny weird looking spot on the dash!

Make them pay for, like I said in my first post. But why try to 'buff it out' etc. The dash is modular. It comes out, in pieces. Find the scratched piece, and have the dealer pop in a new one. Probably have to order it from Detroit.

Thanks for all your input guys. I really dont want the glass company to do anything about it. I dont want anymore problems. I just want my truck right. I have to look at the dashboard all the time. I looked up the part with ford and that particular part is actually the whole dashboard. I was just wondering if anyone else has scratched thier dashboard and what they did to correct it. So be careful with your dashboards!!

My truck was a dealer demo and when I bought it, it had a scratch on the dashboard as well. It annoys the heck out of me, but I haven't taken the time to do anything about it. If anyone finds anything that will help hide these scratches, I'm all ears.

hey EZ, my '04 Lariat had a scratch on the silver part of the dash when i bought it new from the dealer. They have some kinda paint that matches perfectly. The service ticket said "taped off and sprayed scratch in dash". Try to take it in to the dealer and see how much it would cost you, then take that quote back to your windshield installer. I would think they would have some kinda insurance for this type of thing.

Hey teuton, Thanks for that info. I was thinking of taking it to the dealer, but i thought they would just make it worse or even more noticable. You really cant even see where they spotted it in??

I've looked at every angle, and even knowing that the scratch was there, I can't see it. I was doubtful when they said they would only take about an hour to fix it, thinking they would have to pull the entire dash. It really looks perfect though.
