302 vs 351 firing order

am about to order a new cam for my 302 and am wondering if there is any benefit to getting a cam with the 351 w firing order?

Nope, the firing order doesn't really affect power output much.

It depends on what your putting it in. You generally don't want to do it to an EFI motor unless you're running a mustang computer.

The 351W lessons thew load on the front of the crank. The 302 fires 1 then 5 which is the front of the crank. The W does not do this. That is really the only benifit.

well, the 351 order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, with 4 and 8 both right after the other the same as 1 and 5 in the other order....

(302's are considered windsors too, just an observation from a couple folks wanting to swap from a 302 to a windsor)

There is more going at the front of the crank than the rear of the crank and things like super chargers can be added to the front of the crank increasing it's load. The rear oly has the flywheel, not timing chain and no drive belts adding to the front load plus the front of the crank sticks out past the block surface giving it leverage where as the back of the crank is just about flush with the motor.

Why didn't they change the 460 order too?

Thats a good question and the 460 motors have been known to break or they do when the y run the 460 in place of the 370 which has a thicker crank snout.

I'm no expert on this but it made good sense to me. Whay else would ford have changed it? It would have been alot easier to leave it as the 302 order. Cams could have been kept the same saving costs and so on. Oh well who really knows why and I guess it doesn't much matter.

Yeah, I can see your argument, I was just curious. I don't think they had to do too much to change the order since the 351's already ran that order cam. I read somewhere it was to make the motor run a little smoother, but I don't really know why they changed it either.
