1997 F250 7.5L fuel savings ideas?

Just purchased a cherry 1997 F250 Crew Cab, with the 7.5L gas engine.
Of course, fuel economy is on my mind. Has anyone gotten any boost from a K&N air filter?
A neighbor thinks I should put on a Throttle Body Spacer. Is this a good idea?
I don't need more horsepower, just want the best fuel economy possible.
Any ideas would be greatly appreicated.

to get better fuel economy? get a different engine. but really, a free-er flowing exhaust should help your mileage, power, and your sound.

He has a point....
I got 8mpg from my 460.... With K&N and exhaust...
The 460 is not noted for it's stellar fuel economy...

I doubled my mileage with a 2003 7.3 PSD...

Congrats on the 'new' truck!

There's only ONE real way to save fuel- slow down.

Take all the money you are looking at spending for filters, exhaust, etc and put it towards gasoline. Then, take a page from the PSD guys and keep the engine below 2000 RPMs. Also be sure to keep the tires properly inflated and the engine tuned (new plugs, wires & rotor/distro).

Doing the above, I can get 12+ MPG out of my old '97 with 195,000 miles on it.

I agree with NoMo. Keep it tuned, tires infalted, slow down, try to find fuel without ethanol or the lowest % possible and use the lowest octane rating that your engine will run on wiothout ping. The new exhaust well sound nice but nice will not improve fuel mpg. I've had a K & N filter on a Blazer and IMHO doubt that it did anything except make money for the manufacturer.

I had a '94 F250 w/460. I tried the K&N filter, didn't see any real difference. I found the difference between driving 55 and 65 were amazing. Speed is about the only way to help mileage. A real puller, but loved gas stations.

I have a 7.3 PSD now, man what a difference.
