Thumbs up Loose Steering column 94 f150

I just bought a 1994 f150. The Steering column is loose. not really the column but the peice just below the steering wheel. How can I fix this. Also the airbag is not attached. How do I secure it to the steering wheel?

I will have a few more questions. This is the first f150 I have had since 1976.

Thanks
Ron

If you mean the plastic outer column jacket it should just be a pair of phillips screws you should see from underneath. This jacket just clamps around the column, not to it, so it will always have some play to it. As far as the air bag, got me. It did'nt sound right so I checked my books and I can't find anything about a 94 having an air bag. I have a 94 F-250 and it has no air bag. If it did I would assume it would drop in just like the horn button assembly with two screws from the back. Hope this helps.....

Almost

The airbag I will check but the loose steering column is a little more. I can actually lift the steering wheel up about a half an inch, but it doesn't seem to be the entire column moving, just the wheel and about 6 inches down the column.

Any Idea?

Sure it doesn't have a lever? It's below and a bit forward of the turn signal stalk, a little stubby dude.

no lever

I just checked it and there is no stubby lever to tilt the wheel. There is a place in the plastic housing that is probaly where the lever would go.

But

I check the movement again and it is not moving enough to be tilt steering that is completely loose, ......but again.....it could be tilt just not locking down completely.

How do you think I could fix that?

Woobley Steering Wheel

I just repaired what sounds like the same problem less that an hour ago. There is a bearing and bushing kit which keeps the steering wheel from woobling back and forth. My Ford dea;ers had the parts on the shelf and the instructions were included. Less than a two hour repair. I do have a tilt wheel. Check the plastic housing around the wheel just under the turn sigal lever. If your tilt lever is missing, check with a small flash light and you should see where the lever threads into a 1/4" hole.
