Per this page it appears that every every two valve produced since '99, inc. Excursions for '05, take 6qts, or 5.7 liters. It looks like Ford decided that the three valve 5.4 and 6.8 could use an extra qt. (7qt recommendation)

Maybe if us two valvers use an extra 1/2- 1qt we can pick up a few extra ponies.

I've been told the same thing chip by another 25+ year Ford mechanic/shop foreman.Sooooo I take his advise do the same thing you have suggested too.
