if i read the disclaimer correctly it says the xlt and fx4 are vinyl only. i had an upholstry shop look at mine (lariat) and was of their opinion that it is leather for all that is worth. if it isnt it is the best looking vinyl i have ever seen(pleather?)

Hey Dartguy, When you are right you're right! I just reread the fine print and Lariat SuperCrew gets leather rear seats but Lariat SuperCab (like mine), FX4 SCab and SCrew get premium vinyl on the rears. Dang those lucky Lariat SuperCrewers and those King Ranchers!
Light yourself up a cigarette, or if you don't smoke, bring a friend that does, and he/she can light one. Take a couple of deep drags, till the end is nice and burning.
Find an out of the way area of the seat, bottom or something.
Touch the lighted end of the cigarette to the small area.
Vinyl will melt.
Leather will burn and smell like burnt cow skin, but won't perforate if you just touch it.
Powerdude, I am still wondering how I could tell/determine what a burnt cow would smell like? Thanks
Go to Home Depot, or Lowe's (or any other home improvement store) and get some cheap leather trimmed work gloves. Those are either cow or pig skin, but burned animal skin usually smells the same way.
It's a joke, right? Who in their right mind would purposely burn or melt anything in their truck just to prove something that really isn't that hard to tell the difference between and doesn't really matter anyway. Sooo...It's a joke, right?
I have an '05 Lariat Super Cab. It has leather trimmed seats. Best I can tell the front surface of the front seats are the only parts that are leather. The sides and back of the front seats are vinyl, so is the rear seat. They do a very good job of matching. But, if the truck is new and you rub your hand across the surface. The leather areas are slightly rougher than the vinyl. Also, if you look inside the pocket on the back of the front seats you can tell that they are vinyl. I've been told that most leather interiors even on luxury cars, are actually leather trimmed.
Now, for me this isn't a problem because the kids sit in back and I don't have to worry about then spilling something on the leather seats.
