90' 5.8l Check engine Light when in Drive or Rec, off in park
I just got a 90's model Bronco and its weird. I can drive it a bit, like 20-30 mins and its all good. Then the light comes on. If you put it in park the light goes off, drive or reverse its back on. Anyone have a clue on this one? I havent done a code thingy yet, havent had time.

HMM, Very odd. When this occurs the truck is in Forward iddling, the reason the light comes on is the oil preasure guage goes nuts, as far as almost dropping down to nothing, but a little rev its right back up there, and put it in park its normal. I drove it all day with no problem then this afternoon at a red light and noticed it. also after this happens the truck leaks oil . some help would be cool.

Ok.....first thing I would do in the morning is to get my hands on a good quality mechanical oil pressure gauge......like a shop gauge or one you could rent/borrow from a auto parts store. Go under the rig and remove the pressure sending unit from its location....I think on the 5.8 its just forward and above the oil filter.....you will see it. Then hook in the line for the mechanical pressure gauge and see what the hell you real deal oil pressure is (the dash gauge is a known weak point and notoriously inaccurate). I think on your truck it should be like 40-60 LBS @ 2000 RPM......at idle when the engine is at operating temp it should be like 25-30 lbs......(I heard of 5.0's running many years w/much lower idle pressures though).
Also do a code check....KOEO.....there should be something in the KAM.....no?

KOEO = Key On Engine Off
KAM = Keep Alive Memory (I have heard it also called constant memory and a few other names but you get what I am talking about now)
If you need it I can find the link that gives you a step by step process to check your codes with almost no tolls at all.......in fact I think you can get by with just a paper clip if you have to. I use one of these when at home.
They are only $35 here http://www.etoolcart.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3758
You should also go for the extension cable.....it makes life more easy.
Let us know how you make out!
