Post New 1979 Project

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I recently bought a 1979 F-100 Ranger for a 100 bucks. I want to make it a very nice truck for my dad, who deserves it. Below is all the data I have found on it so far. Im asking for help with ideas and tips so I can make this a great truck for him. Im know he wants something with a 4" to 6" lift and he wants to be able to tow a RV trailer, and be able to drive down the back country camp roads, since he works outdoors. Many thanks to anyone who has any ideas.

Where did you get that deocded info from especially the engine code?

It should read like this

I assume the vin# is F10GNDJ8252

which breaks down to

F10 - F100
G = 302
N = plant built at Norfolk Va
DJ8252 = consecutive build code = Probably Oct 1978

I don't know of a code 40 for 79.
Could it be 46 ?

What color is the truck?

I would stick with a 4" lift an put a nice set of 33" BFG's on it. That rear end came with a 2.75 gear. With a 302 and 33" tires your going to need either a good strong engine or lower gears. If you want to save some money go with the gears option. Find an F250 in the junk yard that came with a 4.10 locker, while your at it get the front brakes parts including the master cylinder and the booster. You will need the extra stoping power if he is going to be towing.

Rechecked VIN # and color code

Thanks for the replys. I rechecked the vin # : F10GNDJ8252 on the drivers door side. It also says the color was: AO The main color is black with silver panels and roof with the all around trim package. The only main damage is the front stubs of the frame are bent about 3 inches to the right. It seems to be in front of the engine mounts. What do I need to check about this? I mean about the entire frame being straight. THanks for all your help and support.

You need to take that truck to a professional alignment shop.

I wouldn't trust a brake/trans/wal-mart place to check this truck out.

Check the yellow pages.
