V-10 or V-8?
#2
I've taken the appropriate amount of time and have done some calculations:
The difference between the V-10 and V-8 is: (drum roll,please)......
2 cylinders!!! (sorry, had to do it)...
Seriously now, the V-8 gets anywhere from 3-5mpg better economy than the V-10, depending on who you ask and how honest they're being. Obvious comparison variables come into play: 2WD vs. 4WD; rear gear ratio's; tire sizes; stock vs. lifted suspensions, et al.
The V-10 is basically a V-8 on steroids. It has more brute power, strength and torque than the V-8, but then again it should. The 5.4L V-8 is a 330ci motor. The V-10 is over 400ci of motor. Both are engineered well and both can get you from Point A to Point B, no problem.
Alot has to do with your personal needs. Do you need the V-10? or just want the V-10? Many here feel that the 5.4L V-8 is fine for the F-150, but that it suffers a bit in the larger F-250. The bottom line on that (again) is: it all depends on what each individual owner needs/wants out of their truck.

I have a 2003 CC 4x4 w/8ft box and the 5.4L engine. Let me tell you. It's enough HP for me. I don't plan on towing massive pounds. Yea for $600 I could have had a V10 but all I've seen at the time were short beds. I like the long bed so I can close the gate with a load of plywood and 2x4's. And still have enough room for the family. It's also used as the third family vehicle at times. It's not a daily driver. I drive a car that gets 35mpg to work.
The PSD 6.0L was a new option and didn't want to take a chance on an unproven engine. Especially out of warranty. Big $$$$$ to fix that engine.

It could be three things:
1) Like you mentioned, his left foot pushes the clutch in, which revs the engine and uses more gas.
2) His left foot pushes the brake pedal, creating drag and thereby using more fuel.
3) His left foot creeps over to the right and stomps on the right foot which is already involved in operating the gas pedal.

Damn! We're up to five now:
1) Like you mentioned, his left foot pushes the clutch in, which revs the engine and uses more gas.
2) His left foot pushes the brake pedal, creating drag and thereby using more fuel.
3) His left foot creeps over to the right and stomps on the right foot which is already involved in operating the gas pedal.
4) He only has a left foot.
5) He has two left feet.
On edit, we're up to six. He says:
"I can get 14mpg on the highway with my V10 if I control my left foot. Which is almost impossible cause the V10 is so much darn fun."
6) Perhaps the V10 is only "so much darn fun" when the throttle is operated by the left foot. (In contrast, The 5.4L is not as much fun no matter which foot you use.)
