question on panel removal

Does anyone know how the panel that the lighter socket is in pops out? I want to mount the switch for my PIAA lights there. Does it just pop out? Let me know. Thanks.

Remove the surround (search under radio for very detailed instructions). Then it more or less pops off. Pressing some tabs is needed. Really easy, and it is a very firm mount for switches, etc. I use it for my power window switches.
If you have the plain one, just a cig lighter in the center, there are two blind sockets on the back. Depending on how big your light switch is, you might have to 'grind off' some of the plastic on the back. You will see what I mean when you pull it.

How do you modify those "blind" sockets? I had a bunch in my chevy that I wanted to use, but never figured out how.

By blind socket I mean they are set up so that the factory would be able to cast them all at once, so they are made with three mounting positions, only one of which was used on my truck. You could see where the factory would cut holes to the two 'flanking' ones, and put switches, or whatever, in them. Since they were just part of the extruded plastic 'panel', and not essential for anything I use, I just milled em off with a mototool. Cutting the biggest part off with a cutting wheel, then smoothing them up. I then cut the holes with razor knife. Technicaly, I didn't cut the holes. A friend was over, and he cut the rectangular slots for my switches, while I fixed his computer. He dressed the square holes with needle files.

Thanks Chris, grinding doesn't bother me. I just need to figure out a good way to mount the switch now. It's a nice switch, but has no provisions for mounting, I guess most people just velcro, or double sided tape them on. Oh well, custom here we go.

Thanks, Thats what I had to do as well, I was just wondering if you found a way to use the switch brackets already there.
