What is a "scorched" piston?
I've been reluctant to post on my new motor, but Houston we have a problem:
It seems that the #1 injector I installed (Accel 21lb) never worked at all. I thought the miss was cam lope..... Well I replaced the bad injector (Accel made good on waranty), and now there is a "tick" coming from #1 AFTER the motor is good and warmed up. It starts out perfect, then slowly appears.
My mechanic concluded that the problem is definitely in the bottom end (Shorted out plug, tick sound changes). He says the piston is "scorched", and clearly this is not good. Motor has less than 1500 miles on it. Also, after 500 miles, I put in 100% synthetic Mobil oil. After reading about the potential problems with putting synthetic oil in newer motors, I have went back to 20-50, hoping the tick would just go away. Well, it hasn't. Have had the valve train went through, and all is in order. Can a bad injector cause a piston to overheat? I figure it just goes up and down, taking a free ride.
Any thoughts or experience with this sort of problem would be appreciated. Guess I'm preparing myself for the worst.

Maybe
Hello
I personly think it would be wise to take the head off and take a look. But if it runs fine maybe you dont need to. But it still would be wise. This to me sound more like a vavle train problem though but you said it was fine. Burnt valve maybe? It's odd that it only ticks while it is warm though or warming up.

Haaser,
Thanks for the input. A pic of my motor is in the gallery under 95' Bronco section :https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=12557 Specs are included. This is a potent motor. I started mine about the same time that the "went to see the engine builder" thread started. I went the crate route, but left off the fuel injection and intake. (15hp for an additional 2 grand was not worth it.) I may live to regret that decision.
