5.8 with a 5-Speed????

We're looking at 1990 Bronoc w/the E.B. package. The lady told us that it has a 5.8 motor but my brother told me that Broncos w/5-Speeds came with a 302. Can anyone verify this? I can tell the difference between a 5.0 & 5.8 but I want to know if they swapped the engines.

BTW, any other things to look for???

Thanks in advance!

Never mind.....we just went to look at the Bronco and it has an automatic. They want $1800 for it, but the transmission is marginal (kicks in/out of OD when towing a boat) and it hasn't been started in two years. I'm not sure about what its worth, but the transmission scares me. What type of automatic transmission came in the 1990 Bronco?

Thanks in advance!

Ford's fully electronic E4OD was the standard issue automatic by 1990. The E4OD has a sketchy performance and longevity record prior to '93 when Ford reworked shift points and a lot of the internals. A remanufactured E4OD will have all of the post-'93 upgrades already in it. Average cost tips the scales between $2K and $3K for a quality reman.

Towing any significant weight in OD is a big No-no.

My brother told me that the torque convertor may be bad (because the OD kicks in/out) but considering that it needs a trans ($2k), paint ($1k), and misc. interior work, it looks like we're going to walk from this one unless I can get it for less than $1k.
