No horn or cruise control

I seem to have lost my horn and cruise control. Ive checked all my fuses and relays but still no luck. The only thing I can think of is it might be in the steering column. Anyone have any ideas.

No horn or cruise control

Could it be a circuit breaker, out under the hood?

No horn or cruise control

Depending on what year your truck is (I am only familiar with my 90)- there are brushes behind the steering wheel that contact with areas on the back of the steering wheel to give you the connection for the horn, cruise control. As always, begin by looking for simple stuff like a fuse, but if they cruise and horn ceased working at the same time, I'd bet it's a brush or some contact point in the column (assuming your truck has the cruise control on the wheel). I recently installed a new (to me) steering wheel in my 90 to replace the worn out one I had, and the contacts on the back of the wheel were corroded so that I had no cruise or horn.

My 1996 E150 had the same thing. There is a Horn Relay under the hood (mine was next to the brake master cylinder. Mine had come loose from the mounting and was hanging upside down, happened to fill with water and corrode. For some reason, the cruise control goes through this relay also. Relay was only available at a Ford Dealer (nobody else had them in stock) for about 5.00.

Regards, Gerry

Have seen many clocksprings go bad on mid to late 90's trucks and vans. Is the air bag light flashing?

Thanks all for your replys. Im sorry, forgot to mention my truck is a 94 f-150 and cruise is on the steering wheel. Also my airbag light is flashing but I thought everything was still working untill the other day when i tried to use cruise and horn. Maybe they are all connected to the problem.

Is the light blinking 3 times then a small pause then 2 times this would be a code 32. This means the clockspring is bad.

I just purchased a 94 F-150 SC. Exact symptoms. No Horn, No Cruise, Air Bag Light flashing. They had to replace the clockspring. Works like a charm now.

mauzer1, I will have to show my ignorance about the newer Ford's. I've never had anthing newer than a 90 in the F series or full size Bronco's. What is the clockspring you mention?

The (clock spring) is simply wires for the SRS mainly, that are coiled and inclosed in a round housing under the steering wheel. It is designed to wind an unwind the wires going to the air bag. Better contact than slip ring system.

No Horn No Cruise

I have a 1990 Econoline F350. my horn has been working on and off and stopped working today. The relay sounds as if it is sticking. It is located on a plastic connection box (2in x 3in) at the bottom right of the steering column.

The relay is welded to a flat bracket that is attached to this black plastic connection box. I disconnected the relay and called the number into a ford agency and they no longer carry the relay. Their computer says the relay is for the cruise control, but the horn uses it also.

I don't know if the 1990 has the clock spring mentioned in other forum responses. Don't know if this helps any. I'm gonna try to replace this relay.
