Considering a used Ford Excursion to replace my aging, hate to say Chev Suburban. I just find the Suburbans are becoming more of a luxury commuter SUV and less of a workhorse.

I have been lurking and reading messages on this great forum and have come to like the V10 as my first engine choice.

My understanding is the that V10 changed from a 2-valve head setup to a 3-valve (likely 1-intake/2-exhaust) setup.

Can you tell me what model years would have the 3-valve head and how much more desireable the 3-valve engine would be?

The new 3-valve motor is found in 05 and up vehicles. The power increase is noticable versus the 2valve motors. However, if you go with a 2valve motor, the later ones had increased perfomance due to reworked cylinder heads, good for 310hp, which would be the next best option.

 

05 and newer for the 3 valve head. 2 intake 1 exhaust. you will find we have dyno'd both and the owners posted the results. good luck try and find the newest you can aford as there are many up dates. in the motors designs.

FYI, the 3v V10 is not available in the Excursion. Only 2005 and newer F-series SD's.
