Question 400 & Motorcraft 2150 - Need idle help

Hi All -
I recently put a remanufactured Motorcraft 2150 carb on my '78 F250 and the truck runs 110% better. I have played with the idle settings (mixture & speed) and the choke, but I still have a couple of issues I need some advice on...

The first is fast-idle adjustment. On a cold start the idle does not increase making it necessary to give the old girl some gas for the first minute of warmup.

The second is, once warm (5-10 minute drive) the engine speed at idle increases to almost 2 times as fast as while it was warming up. This causes a bit of dieseling when I turn the ignition off and is annoying.

Any help is appreciated!

Hum,

It sounds like from your description that you need to turn up the cold idle and turn down the warm idle.

I think that the screw adjust for the cold idle is on the passenger side. The warm idle will be on the drivers side.

Thumbs up

Thanks Lee!
I found the cold idle and that worked on the cold starts. I found that the idle racing when warm was caused by some binding in some of the linkages under the choke. I'm investigating further this afternoon.
