I'll take a stab at this. I think it's the front axle in heavy duty trucks. Instead of IFS this uses one beam. If you have a two wheel drive dually, you have this set up in the front.

the f350's and superduties will all have the dana 60 monobeam axle. the f250 has what ford called the TTB dana 50. twin traction beam. the D60 is a much heavyier duty design and rides nicer and last longer also. alot of guys swap a d60 into there f250 and ditch the d50 which is a pain in the butt.....hard to align, wears out faster dosnt ride as nice.

the two wheel drive has a twin i beam front axle thats where they got the concept for the 4x4 twin i beam.

heres some pics to check out of a dana 50 swapping to dana 60

kinda confused on ur post, so for a 2001 f350 two wheel drive 7.3 SD has a twin i beam?

but u posted that all f350's and superduties have the monobeam axle..

so is a two-wheel drive f350 have a twin I-beam setup or monobeam axle?

Welcome to FTE. 2 wheel drive trucks don't have a front axle. They have a twin I beam suspension.

I've read several threads in the past that 250s and 350s are no different axle wise. 2001s and earlier have the Dana 50 and they started using the 60 sometime in '01. Someone correct me if I'm off course

TTB went away (thank goodness) with the Super Duty body style- all 4x4 SD's have solid axles (monobeam axles) front and rear. The 88-97 F250's did have Dana 50 TTB's, and even the early 80's F350's ran them in some models. TTB's are notorious for being hard on tires and just a general pain in the rear, a solid or monobeam axle is definitely a better way to go.

I read a similar question in Diesel Power a while ago. I believe it went 99-01 f250's got the 50, 02-03 got the 60, all excursions got the 50 but some got a 60 in the newer models (accident they called it)... this just going on memory here at work but might try their website. I'll find the issue and comment tomorrow

99-01 and *some* early 02 SRW SDs (350 and 250) got the Dana 50.
02+ SRW SDs got the Dana 60

My 01 F-350 has a Dana 50 front (yes I am sure....I installed a D50 ARB and 4.56s in it with a buddy of mine).

Don't know about the Xs....but I do know of a 03X that has a Dana 50 front.
