Brakes squeak! Help!

Hello FTE members,

I've got an 04 F150 FX4. The brakes started squeaking very early into my new truck purchase.

At first the dealership didn't want to do anything, however when I complained more they agreed to deglaze the pads and rotors.

Well, we know how this story goes....the squeak is back.

I think this problem will always occur with OEM pads, because they have a metal jacket on them.

What solutions have you guys come up with??? Different pads?? Ceramic pads?? Sintered pads??

I also think the dealership should put the new pads on for free and give me the cost of the old ones towards something aftermarket.

Squeakin' F150,
Kyle

At first, the dealer turned my rotors for this. They were slighltly warped but you couldn't feel it through the brake pedal. The squeak was gone then after 1k the rotors were really warped because they turned them down to min spec so they replaced them with the newer harder rotors and no squeak and hardly any brake dust. There is a tsb out there somewhere for this.

What is a tsb and where is it?

I have approx. 5,500 on my truck. So you think it's the rotors and not the pads at fault??

Kyle,

This should help you out. It came from a tech on another site. My dealer used this tsb to solve my issue.

Brake squeal

I have the same problem on my 04, 6 mos ago they degalzed everything, squeal went away for about two days, the next oil change then they replaced the front pads under warranty, that lasted about a month before they started up again.
Two weeks ago they replaced both front rotors under warranty, the squeal came back after a week, my next move will be after market brake pads.
Someone had mentioned Porterfield on this site, I think I will give them a try
Good Luck!
