Big Fight

I have been fighting with my friend for the last week. I have seen many articles which state that ford sold more f-series than Chevy and GMC combined. My friend a diehard gm nut things not only that chevy sold more than ford but he is also trying to tell me chevy sold 830,000 silverados. I don't beliveve it. can anyone give me the total sales for ford f-series, gmc sierra, and chevy silverado for 04' and their source?

This is the numbers from December 2003 to December 2004 which covers the 2004 sales.

Ford leads the pack beating the Chevy and GMC combined. I would find another friend.

i think polarbear can chime in on this. i think it is all a matter of what you call a truck. heck chrysler called the PT Cruser a truck so they could get by with the lousy fuel economy they get.

i don't think the avalanche is included in that number either. my mom is an accountant for the company that makes GM truck beds, and they make well over a million a year if that says anything.

a million truck beds. how many are replacements for accidents as they seem to fold like a tin can. the dealer i work at is import and gm, both our delivery trucks have been tailended and folded like tin cans. had real bad major frame bends. they both needed replacement beds. no pun or knock intended against gm it helps make my pay check. just that they don't seem to stand up body wise in wreaks.

I'm assuming that ford counts the F-450/550s in their numbers. Does GM count the 4500/5500 in their numbers?

The numbers, through March

Ford:..........3/05........YTD
Ranger........10764......26612
F-Series......80527....189408
Exped...........9489.....26296
Excursion......1461.......3432

GM
............3/05.......YTD
Colorado/
Canyon......17787......40967
Silverado/
Sierra........93880.....176831
Tahoe/
Yukon........20192......47981
Suburban/
Yukon XL.....12470......29419

Ford Sales Link

GM Sales Link

Closer than a Washington State gubernatorial election.

edit: My understanding is that this covers 150-350, and 1500-3500. The bigger trucks aren't considered light duty trucks for the sales count.

There's a half-ton difference in empty weight, and the GM sits lower than the Ford. I'm guessing those would be contributing factors- especially the latter.

Hmm, when did Ford become number 3? And last I looked Ford was 2 and made 1.2 bill this quarter while GM lost 1.1 billion. How much longer before GM is not number 1.
