Transfer Case Mystery

I was under my Bronco this morning and after I finished adjusting the band on my tranny I was just peering around. To my chagrin I discover what looks like a connection for a vacuum tube on top of my transfer case. It's right behind the transmission and right above some sort of wiring harness. If it is a vacuum hose connector I can't find where it's supposed to connect to. any help would be much appreciated.

Yep, the front and rear differential housings have them as well. Keep it well above the water line when doing those stream crossings. I know some folks extend them up into the engine bay against the firewall so that when the water is deep enough for the fan to slap the water, the end of the hose doesn't go under and allow water into the gearings.
