compensation for new damaged lawn tractor
I received a call from Sears that the lawn tractor I ordered came in but has a 1&1/2 in scratch in the hood. They offered to give me compensation for the scratch & touchup paint or order a new one. On a $1300.00 tractor how much to you think they will offer? Anyone else have the same involvement with Sears?I figured a $100.00

The rule of thumb at Sears is..
Offer replacement.. Downside, now you gotta wait for another one to ship, and this time of year, depending on the store (high volume vs. low volume), that could take a while.
Offer comp... Usually, fix the problem and give em a 10% on next purchase coupon. Sears isn't much for cash compensation. Best they might do is 10% off the tractor if you really pitch a fit about the wait.
If it was the Lawn and Garden Associate who sold you the tractor that called (which I assume it was), then make sure you talk to him/her. They may also hook you up with a tractor accessory or 2 for your troubles.
And make sure to try and do business with this person again. Not too many are left with Sears that will actually go the extra mile to take care of the customer.
Most would be cowering in the breakroom when you came through MPU to get it, hoping you wouldn't see the scratch and refuse/return it, so as to leave their comission intact.. (if you return it, they lose the comission).
Oh, and as a former Sears employee that knows the benefits of them, I gotta ask... "Did you get the M.A.?"

I guess what might be worth thinking about is how much will that scratch/dent bug you in the years to follow, without regard to any financial concessions they offer. I'd have to see it, but myself I'm fussy about how I take care of things and no monetary compensation would ever be enough.
