Any tricks to clear the memory on a 5.4

Looking to clear the memory on my 2002 5.4; any procedure to follow or just take the battery cable off for a few minutes?

Just take the negative cable off for a while. I really don't know how long it needs to be disconnected so I usually just disconnect it in the evening and then reconnect it in the morning.

A few minutes with the headlight switch turned to ON is adequate.

Exclamation

2 minutes with the ECU fuse pulled out will do the trick.

It's in the underhood relay box.

As for the headlight myth, since the headlights do not run through the engine computer, that's going to be a very interesting way to drain power to the computer!

Alfred, to be clear, do I have to pull the battery cables, just the fuse. Is the fuse clearly labeledunder the hood ('02 F250)? I recently purchased the truck, and I am looking to reset the computer to my driving characteristics. It sounds stupid, but I did it with my 2000 Wrangler and it seemed to help the MPG a bit. Plus I added a K&N filter. I know I am reaching here, but anything to help me "think" I am getting better gas mileage will ease my mind.

Just disconnecting the battery cables should do the trick.

One battery cable is sufficient... Go for the negative one...less crud.
Here's a suggestion to "improve effective MPG." Don't drive so much. I know that sounds like heresy, but it's a real remedy. Ride a bicycle for short trips. It's healthy and it saves gas.
Another suggestion. Double up. That's right, get a buddy to ride with you. Then let him return the favor. This can be accomplished by planning.
This gasoline pricing "bites"!
