Anyone Installed a larger fuel tank in the F150??

I have a '97 f150 5.4 4x4

It has the 21 gal tank I beileve. Is replacing that tank an option? Say with a 38 gal tank from one of the newer trucks. I tow alot for long distances and get sick of pulling over for gas.

Anybody ever done this ? Any ideas?

I have had the same experience. The 2wd has a 21.5 gallon tank and the 4wd has a 25 gallon tank and neither is very large. I have looked in every magazine and site that I know and haven't found a replacement tank any larger. I believe thats it's because stock the truck just doesn't seem to have room for a larger one. I have straight pipes on mine so I have the room but until I find a tank I'm stuck. If you find anything let me know. Sorry I can't be of help

Thumbs down

HaHa!!! You just made a turn for the worse. My girlfriends brother just bought a 05 Dodge diesel. It gets 10.2 mpg!!! I just got 420miles on my last fill up in my Ford and his Dodge diesel (with 6speed manual) has a DTE(distance till empty) of 408miles when it's full. His Dodge has about a 40+ gas tank!!!!! My Ford has a 21.5 gallon tank!!!! If you wanted to fix the problem of a small gas tank you did, but you WILL have to fill up more often than before!
