272 Y-block Tappet Adjustment help
I have just adjusted the tappets on my 1955 272 Y-block. (It is the car engine, if that makes a difference.) One manual I have says .002" for intake and .003" for exhaust.(cold) Another manual says .016" cold and .016" hot. I adjusted them to the .002 & .003 specs. A friend told me that he thinks I might burn the valves as he thinks this is too little clearance. I need to know for sure before I start the engine. Can somebody help me with the right tolerances? I have listed this in the engine and Effie sections for max response. Thanks, Jag

Good news, sort of. My manual was not defective, it was my eyes that are wrong! I rechecked and I was looking at the wrong column on the spec page. It says for cold adjustment use .018" for intake and exhaust. So you guys were right on as usual. I've got it regapped and it should run great in about two weeks when I get it all back together. FTE IS the best! Jag
