Purple Hornie's or Cherry Bomb's????
My friend just got a 89 F-150 with the same 5.0 that i have and he started it up to let me listen to it and it was the best sounding truck ive ever heard...i looked under the hood and i didnt see any headers, and i looked under the truck and saw red glasspacks(most likely Cherry Bombs) so i want my truck to sound just like his, but another friend of mine said not to get cherry bombs but to get purple hornies and he said they would sound better.....sound im stuck deciding which pair of glasspacks to get....does anyone know if there is any real difference in sound between the two?

Well, I'd just get whatever one you like the sound of the best. You also said most likely cherry bombs, so I'd check with your friend and find out for sure so that you aren't disappointed when you start up your truck.

Could be Thrush Magnum's, I believe they have a red outer paint on them.
It'll burn off. I personally just have stainless steel-cased glasspacks, nothing fancy. I'm the only one underneath there anyways

I know length will determine how loud it is...but do all the brands of glasspacks bascially have the same tone???

Some brands are perforated, some are louvered. I think louvered (Cherry Bombs, Purple Hornies) are louder.
Does he have cats?

nope no cats...so my setup will be stock manifolds back to cherry bombs or hornies, and then either out the side in front of each rear wheel or all the way out the back with 3.5 inch chrome angled tips

Well, I am running one Purple Hornie and one Red Hot on true duals and they sound the same but I had some Cherry Bombs and thought they were kind of cheap, the Flowtechs are quieter inside and kinda give the sound of a truck with headers. (at least on mine). One thing that might tell you if they are cherry bombs is when you look at how the collars are welded on they could be on a bit of an angle, I have looked at alot of Cherry bombs and most of them seem that way.

Mine are perforated tube. You can see right through from one end to the other, and alot of holes up into the casing all around it.
