Mpg Help!!!!!

In light of the rising gas prices, I'm looking for ways to improve my mpg. Right now I get 16.6 mpg with my 04 superscrew 4x4 5.4l. I have some flowmaster duals but everything else is stock. Is a K&N Air Filter worth the money. They say it helps. Does anyone have proof? Any other suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

If you drive a lot of miles, it might pay for itself in a year or so. I put one in when I first got the truck, and then later removed it for service reasons. I forgot to put it back in for weeks, then when I put it in, I forgot I had done it. (When you're over 50, this is normal..) I was surprised at a sudden small (under 1 mpg) improvment. It wasn't till I remember that I had put the filter back in that I could explain it. So I did nothing to influence it, and mileage got better.

Best single mileage bet is get a very low cost Tonneau cover. Payoff will still take a good two years, but it has other uses.

Your mileage, if around town is already great. If it's highway, it needs help.
Good luck
Chris

16.6???? I baby my 05 5.4 Screw 4x4, never let the RPM go over 2000 and coast every inch I can and I struggle to stay above 12MPG around town. On the highway I got about 14. Its a new truck so I am hoping it gets better as it breaks in.

How many miles do you have? What kind of driving do you do to get 16.6???

I am doing the same type of driving as you: Keep revs under 2k, coast...My last 2 tanks of gas I got 19.25 and 19.1 mpg. I'd see if the dealer can help you out with a reflash. I never had mine reflashed (not sure if it is up to date) because I didn't want to screw up a good thing.

As for the K&N, I put one in my 00 f150 4.6L SCAB. Noticed about a 1 mpg gain and the truck was more peppy/responsive.
