This week I am driving my 1991 F-150 from South Jersey to Birmingham, Alabama. The truck has the 302, 5-speed, and its rear wheel drive. The total mileage is 165k but the rebuilt engine has about 10k. Any advice for this trip? I’m getting the truck serviced this week. Thanks.
Just do all filters/fluids and I'd do a distributor cap/rotor if not done in a while and take the old one along as a spare. New serpentine belts or spares for the road. A couple quarts of oil and a gallon of water. A close check on tire pressure, cold. Enjoy the ride. Are you taking I-95 south to I-85 then I-65 to Birmingham, or a more scenic route?
It's the most expedient way as well as the most populated if you have any trouble. Taking I-95 to DC, then I-66 across to I-81, then pick up I-75 at Knoxville to Cahttanooga, take I-59 south from there. Much more scenic route but you'll pull more hills and it's not as populated.
