Buddy of mine had his 01 Dodge diesel in for a oil pan gasket leak at the dealer no big deal. Picked it up made it 20 miles and his truck started knocking 21,000
miles on the truck. Loaded up on the trailer hauled it back to the dealer only to find out the turbo was shot and had a hard knock in the bottom end. Dodge voided his warrenty at this point because he had a chip on it. So we decided to pull the motor ourselves get it pulled and drop the oil while it's on the stand oil was barely coming out of the pan so we figured chunks of who knows what is plugging it up stuck a finger up the hole and what the he!! a rag was in there. Put the plug back in and called Dodge they sent out an independent guy to come out and diagnose. Ends up the mechanic that changed the $20 gasket decided to hang his grease rag on the oil pickup tube and forgot take it off before re assembly. End of story Dodge put a brand new motor in at there cost and that tech no longer works for them.

I recently acquired a 1988 Bronco II to go off-roading with. Before I could hit the trails, it needed a litle routine maintenance (it still had some of the factory hoses on it.) So I did all the regular stuff like change the oil, tranny fluid, t-case fluid and so on. We decided to replace the battery cables with 2 gauge cables since the original ground had gotten mixed up with the alternator. In tracking the ground, I found that it terminated right behind the oil filter, and the the only easy way to remove it is to remove the oil filter first. Fast forward about two weeks, my fellow KS chapterites and I got everthing accomplished and were finally ready to fire it up. When we did, the engine sounded like it was about to give out. Upon further inspection, I realized that the engine lubrication system works much better if all the parts are there and that a simple part like an oil filter will keep large quanities of oil off of the garage floor. It only took 20 pounds of oil dry to clean it up.

I took a long look back. I guess I was a lucky one. I haven't done anything dumb in the garage. I have witnessed a few. Step father grinding a chisle while wearing his oxygen. Nice quick flame, no eyebrows or nostril hair left. Best friend growing up was a riot. He decided to pull his amc javilin part way out of the garage, because the garage was a bit small. He jacked the rear end up on fresh asphault with no stands. While under it changing the tranny filter it sank and pinned him under it. The cake was when I just got over to his house to help he was jumping the poles to start it. He got a smart idea to fix a crack in the battery plastic with asphault sealer. Not a good plan as soon he found out. One nice loud bang and battery and battery acid every where. He has changed the oil several time gets the new filter on but kept forgetting the oil plug. He has replaced the transmission in his pickup and forgot to reinstall the drive shaft. Tried to remove rear shocks by jacking the rear end up not the body. luckly he didn't loose and arm that day. He cut a hole in the javilins roof for a sun roof, 8 inches to big. He had to get a largw moonroof to put in it's place. He' has been a source of laughter in my life to watch.

I found that problem in an 1850 Oliver when I was a rookie. Another shop had done an inframe under-haul and had tied a red rag over the sump to limit the drips. It also reduces the oil pressure drastically at idle.

Changing a fuel filter, 87 s-10- It wasnt easy to reach, mounted behind the power steering pump, iirc. I was in a hurry, so I thought I'd just slide underneath the truck to pull the bottom hose off. I'm not a little guy, and it was an s10, so it was a tight fit under there. I couldnt get out of the way fast enough after I pulled the hose and got a shot of gas straight into both eyes. Burned like hell and blinded me. I layed there about 15 minutes til thankfully a buddy showed up. It took about a half an hour before I could see again. Definately not one of my brighter moments.

My buddy special orderd the 6.0 when it first came out. About 2 months into driving it the turbo went out. Taking it to the dealer they replaced the turbo but never changed the oil because they didnt have an oil filter for the truck yet. It didnt even make the 20 mile trip home before the next turbo was out. Sat at the dealer for 3 weeks before they got it all back together. One I did now. I work for a dewatering company. Our pumps are around 100 hp diesels. I was rewiring one. When I finished I cleaned a dirty spot with either which is like mobile parts washer in our shop. Not thinking I sprayed it over like 5 lbs of oil dry 20 minutes later I went over to the pump and ground on it. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the fuel tanks on pumps sit on the ground. They ar rectangle shaped square tubes hooked to gether So theres an opening under the motor were the oil dry was. SO I bring a grinder over 20 minutes later and proceed to start a chemical fire. Not planning on the either obsorbing in the oil dry lol. IT was in the middle of 130 gallons of fuel to. LOL. What can I say I may not get much done but I sure am fun to watch.

LMAO! I know that feeling well, I work in a beer ware house and we had just hired a guy who was just getting comfortable on the electric lifts we use and he went to grab a pallet of beer ( about 72" tall) and got ahold of the one behind it and brought both of them down! What a mess! Of course I LMAO and tell him it's o-k and he's all worried but he still has his job. I have never toppled a pallet from the stack before but I had one slide off the forks and go everywhere when I naild the brakes after noticing that one of the drivers had move the truck to a new position. I know I know always back up with a load, but we all get "Five o'klock itis" on fridays!

IrishEKU: I've come to realize that most young guys are remarkably similar - we don't think too much unless we have to. As my 'Old Man' used to say: "You can't put an old head on young shoulders".
It's amazing so many of us survived long enough to become dads ourselves!

It was a late fall evening, with a slight chill in the air. I decided I had to get the bumper on my truck that night. No other night will do. Unfortunately this was no ordinary bumper. It was a custom piece made out of 1/8" steel and probably weighed at least 150 pounds, probably more. Well after a little bit of persuasion I talked my girlfriend into helping me by putting the bolts into the holes as I lifted it into place. It was very quiet that night and both of my neighbors were outside enjoying the evening. Well she climbed under the truck, and as I lifted the bumber I let out the loudest fart I think I've ever had. It came on like a cheetah, never even saw it coming. I started laughing so hard I almost dropped the bumper on my girl, needless to say she doesen't like helping out any more.
