Pay attention to whats being said

Well, it was raining, and 2 in the morning, and we had just finished pulling 2 motors out of mustangs (swap one good one from one crap can one) and me, my friend and one of his friends were pushing the good car back into the garage. Well there is 2 sets of inclines to my buddys garage. one from the street to the sidewalk, and one to the garage. Well, we pushed once, and with all the trans fluid and antifreeze on our shoes, no traction. so we rolled it further back, and heaved again, this time getting the front just before the sidewalk... I said stop to eric the guy in the car, and well, my buddy tonys buddy mike, he decided to keep going, and well, he took a nose dive. Needless to say, they had been drinking. I tell ya, it was the funniest thing. It took us 1/2 hour to stop laughing because it was like, (theres mike and then wheres mike?) I looked at tony, and tony looked at me, and then we got the car in the garage, mike went to take a leak, then comes back in the garage, and whacks his head on the overhead door coming in... it was at eye sight.... too funny things, one night.

One other thing... I am still, and back when I started driving a tow truck, I dropped a car inside a shop. I pulled in unhooked the Jhooks, got the paperwork done, and one of the guys opened the door to let me drive out. Well, they had a dog leash tied to the door because it was a 12 foot door, he let it up just enough to let my truck out. He forgot to add for the boom, and well the leash was centered, my boom was centered, and I took out the bottom 2 panels of their door. I couldn;t see it because it was high enough above my truck, and well, after I heard the noise for a second I stopped. I felt so bad, needless to say that was the last time I towed a car there. I am sure that guy got his butt reamed.

I used to own a 99 ranger 5 speed - and I decided I wanted a remote starter for those cold days. Well I put it in myself, very proud of the wiring job i did (it was very clean LOL) but I didnt want to take the time to find the wires going to the door switch. (it was required for the manual transmisson as a safety to make sure you dont start it in gear). Can anyone see where this is going? I also disabled the clutch switch. I just set the remote starter to Automatic transmisson mode to bypass the safeties. All was well for a few months, I was careful to put it in neutral. One friday morning, walking to my truck (in sight) I hit the remote start button. And proceeded to watch my almost new truck overcome the e-brake and start, drive across the parking lot (with me panicing trying to open the door and get in rather than hit the button again and stop it - the door was locked LOL). The truck proceeded to hit a dumpster on the driver side, smashing the turn signal, the bumper, the fender. the Dumpster deflected the truck slightly (and MOVED a foot) and scraped down the entire driver side, badly denting and scratching every body panel. Its not over. The truck then hit a tree on the OTHER side (passenger side) smashing the other turn signal, headlight, that side of the bumper, the passenger fender. and then scraped down the entire passenger side (ripping off the mirror) and leaving no panel untouched. then went down the (steep) hill, coming to an abrupt stop head on with yet another tree (finally stalled!) which destroyed what was left of the bumper, grill, and hood. The only parts not damaged were the roof and tailgate. All told I did over $6,000 in cosmetic damage to the truck - all because I didnt want to spend the extra effort to hook up the safeties. ALWAYS USE THE SAFETY DEVICES - they are there for a reason LOL... oh and the cop that showed up didnt belive I wasnt drunk when it happend nor the neighbors, etc etc LOL That was my crowning moment of stupidity.

Fell off roof of garage and landed flat on my back on top of picknik table in front of kitchen window of house. Wife and kids thought I was dead. Knocked the breath out of me and struggled to tell them I was ok. Kids came out and poked on me and wife was about to call 911 when I finally caught my breath. Wife told me to stay off roof

i pulled this bonehead move last night.

i needed a piece of 2 inch square tube for a set of seat risers.
in the last 35 years of doing this stuff, i have ALWAYS put on leather gloves when handling scrap steel or cutoffs.
guess what i DID NOT put on last night???
grabbed a 2 foot length from the end with 2 finger in and 3 out. pulled up, and there was a plate welded on the bottom. sliced the index and middle fingers of my right hand to the bone.

heres another one for ya. when near strobe light wires, make sure the box is off, and discharged.
this happened a few weeks ago.
i just got done with a strobe install on the new service truck. the helper ran the wires, and plugged the wires into the power head.when i went to set the flash pattern, i got knocked for a loop. seems he left one of the wires not quite plugged in all the way, and when i touched it, i completed the circuit. they said i flew out of the truck, and bounced off the wall 7 feet away before crumbling into a ball on the floor. i was out for almost 5 minutes, coming to as the cops and ambulance got there.
18 joules @ 9 amps with 24 watts hurts like heck. the muscles in my arms are still screwed up from the electrical surge.

tjc transport, lucky those 9 amps didn't travel through your heart or brain.

You would not be posting. Ouch.

tell me about it Ben!!!
actually, that was not the first time. in 75, i was sitting in a 66 Plymouth fury wagon that got hit be lightning. could not see for 3-4 hours, and was deaf for 2 days and still have loss of hearing of about 45%.
in 89 i was helping a friend wire up his new machine shop. the power company supervisor was standing next to me, commenting on how i was doing such a clean neat job, and assuring me there was no power in the line, it was not hooked up to the pole yet. what we did not know, as he said that, his men were hooking the 440 volt 3 phase up to the transformers. the panel blew, knocking us both out. woke up in the hospital later with second and third degree burns on my face, hands and neck. i swore i would kill the sob in the bucket truck if i ever caught him. he got fired though.
in 2000, i was sitting on the side of the road we were paving in my 79 mack dump truck, and a car hit a pole on the other side of the road. it snapped, and as the transformers fell the wires landed on the back of the truck. 38KV. blew the tires out, and set the truck on fire. had muscle spasms for 5 months from that one, and lost 25% of muscle tone in my left arm.
this is the third time, and hopefully the last.

Forgot about one that Agronomist's story reminded me of........
Replacing old porch decking and tearing out ceiling on porch roof on the same weekend. The idea was to remove the decking so the plaster debris from the ceiling could just fall to the ground through the exposed floor joists and just become "fill" underneath the porch after the job was complete. Decking was off and I had some quarter sheets of plywood down temporarily so I could place the ladder while I removed the old plaster ceiling. It was an old wooden step ladder. I was near the top of ladder swinging a wrecking bar like crazy. Front legs of that old ladder just exploded out from under me and I went airborn. Fortunately landed flat on my back on a piece of the scrap plywood (as opposed to falling into the exposed floor joists). Knocked me out and I came to like Agronomist with my wife and kids standing over me thinking I was dead. My wife had the phone in her hand and was dialing 911 when I regained enough presence of mind to let her know I was ok enough not to need emergency assistance.
Change of plans after that: I redecked the porch, bought a new ladder, and finished the ceiling job last and just cleaned up the resulting mess instead of letting it fall to the ground.
Best laid plans of mice and men..........

Do it right, do it once (perhaps twice if you try to run more than 14psi on stock rods, or if you don't read the instructions properly).

Stupidist move was having a socket welded onto a sissor jack so I could use a ratchet to jack up the car. Jacked up the car to do something underneath it without puting stands or anything else for safety under it. The weld on the socket broke and the jack came apart dropping the car on me. Luckily I was laying flat on my back and had my head turned to the side. I was about 16 then and have done some other dumb moves in the 40 years since, but that one just about put a end to it before it had a chance for more dumb moves.

Time for you to play the lottery.

Wait until it gets to around 250 million dollars.

With your luck, you'll win it all.

Well, My father lives with us, I don't know who I feel sorrier for my wife or him, last christmas there was a lot of styrofoam packing material and he didn't want to haul it to the dump. My brother-in-law told him that he always melted his with a tiger-torch. So on the floor of the single car attached garage, with the door the house open, he lit up a "small" pile of styrofoam. I got home from work at 4:30 and both my wife and father were covered with soot as well as every room in the house, upstairs and down. She wasn't happy and I couldn't stop laughing.

Lost a chunk of my middle finger to the chain and sprocket on our converted go kart/riding mower. My brother was kind enough to go find the piece and bring it insided.

Zapped myself too many times to count, one time it went in one arm and out the other (lucky that didnt kill me).

Made "bullets" for a bb gun out of 12p nails

The most recent one was while hitting an old steel safe with a 10 lb slege. One of the decorative cast iron pieces shot off and nailed me square in the forehead. That one hurt.
