Whats FE stand for?
Did Ford make the 400 a small block or a big block?

FE= freakin' Expensive
This is one subject that NO ONE will ever find the real answer to.
The 400M was considered a small block design(as far as I am aware). The FE and 385 series were the only big blocks(car type only).

I agree...the 400 is a small block.
IMHO...I go with: FE = Ford Edsel ...

In one of the other threads about this somebody brought up the point that FE is the periodic table of elements abbreviation for IRON. It was even used that way in a Ford sales brocure in the 60's. I think thats what I will go by, makes the most sense to me.

The 400 is small block with the big block bellhousing bolt pattern.

Look at the little picture up by my name.
I scanned it off of an iron supplement box that was laying around the house. (dont ask, I dont take it)
The "slow" part doesn't really apply any more, but I leave it there because it's kind of funny IMO.
