EPNCSU2006, My truck has 208K miles on it and it wouldnt surprise me if it still has the original O2 sensor considering I just changed the original plugs and wires 8k miles ago. Still had 1995 Ford Motor Company printed right on em. Maybe an O2 sensor would be a good investment.

208K on OEM Plugs and wires? Wow, I'd think they had failed by that time. Go ahead and do the whole tune-up including PCV valve, all filters, Cap, Rotor, and throw in that O2 Sensor.

Something fail on a Ford!? Thats unheard of! lol Yea I was pretty amazed myself. I changed the cap and rotor cause when I went to pick it up on a wet day, wouldnt start. Put a new cap and rotor on and it fired right off. I've changed every filter cept the air filter. Tranny filters been changed and the oil filters been changed twice. Wheres the PCV valve on this unit? I haven't really looked it over too well...

My truck has 4.10 gears... I'm not too sure if thats what it came with stock or not... But I did notice that when Im cruising on freeway and such it struggles with the gearing... Like if Im going 55mph and it switches to OD It will slow down until it upshifts again.. not sure if that makes sense...

I was busy all day today cuz my starter went bad... but Im gonna do that self test in a minute to try an pull codes. Im also going to fill all of my tires to a good pressure tomarrow.. I dont think there all as full as can be.

ALSO! I do smell gas in the exhaust occasionaly... SO maybe I do need new o2 sensors as well.

The 4.10 is a lower gear ratio than my 3.55 and I don't have any problem cruisin down the highway. Sounds like your engine is havin power issues. Although I do have a 351 in my truck... Not sure how a 302 performs... Last 302 truck I rode in was an 85 half ton and I was only 8 years old. That was 9 years ago...

PCV valve is in left valve cover, all th way to the back. You can barely see it. To get it out, I usually pull on the vacuum hose on it.

Check the Fuel Pressure. Goto AutoZone and ask to borrow a Fuel Pressure Gauge. Hook it up to the shrader valve on the fuel rail. The PSI reading should be (for a V-8) ~35PSI while Idling. If it's too high, the Fuel Regulator is probably bad and needs replacement ($25).

I've already checked the regulator..... I get 35 at idle and 40 any other time.... so I know thats good. Will the PCV valve help fuel mileage at all?

I pulled a code... but I Dont know how to read it!!!

The bleeps go like this...

1 1 1 1 1 4 1 3 2 4 1 3 2 and then it stops...

I think I will replace my PCV just for the hell of it.. and check my fuel pressure as my next step.

Whew I was scared tonight. Found my PCV valve... But then drove up to the local gas station and check engine light came on. I bout had a heart attack. So I popped the hood and found out that when I had messed around the area of the PCV valve.... I broke the vaccuum line going to the egr valve. A slice of electrical tape later she was back together and the light went off. I'm surprised the check engine light aint always on considering the miles lol.

By the looks of it, it seems you're getting CM(memory) Codes 41 and 32.

KOEO repeats 11 twice so that's a System Pass. The 5th '1' is to tell you it's going into CM Codes. It then shows 41 and 32, then repeats them.

32: EVP circuit below minimum voltage of .24Volts... Has to do with the EVP sensor, but really doesn't affect mileage, so let's go to 41.

41: HEGO indicates system lean... Your O2 Sensor could be dead 'stuck' in Lean Condition. This might explain the horrible MPG you're getting since the computer always thinks you're running Lean and keeps enriching the mixture. Before you replace the O2 Sensor, run a KOER test (engine on). If you get a Code 42, the O2 sensor is working.

I pulled the codes from my f-150 and while it was running I got 85,32,36,25,38, and 52. 85 is canister purse circuit failure (whatever that means). 32 is a bad EVP circuit (whatever that is). 36 wasnt in the book. 25 was Knock not sensed during self test (whatever that means). 38 is unknown, not in the book, and finally 52 is power steering pressure switch always open or closed. If anyone could explain to me what all this means I'd appreciate it lol. Thanks

My 96 reg cab 302 4x4 3.55 4r70w w/ stock tires pulled 15.8 mpg on the freeway last trip. In town, stop and go, it gets 12-13 on winter blend gas, and I'm waiting to see how it does on summer gas.

handyman, what year is your truck? Some of those codes are just from things you didn't do during the self test. When you first start the test, the check engine light will blink once - this is your cue to hit the gas pedal momentarily (at least half throttle), turn the steering wheel a quarter of a turn (and tap the brake pedal and press the overdrive button if it's an automatic). I'm not sure if you are reading the numbers correctly since you have some codes that aren't listed in the book. Are you sure they aren't supposed to be 3 digit codes?

i have the 3 02 sensor related problems..engine surges..rich smell, and baaaad gas milage.....so im thinking ill change the o2 sensor...but my truck has no cats or emissions left...not even a functioning airpump....with true dual exhaust...

ive heard of o2 sensors not working properly if this is the case....

could it stll be my culprit.......

up here.in canada...on a full front tank....im lucky if i make 300kms..NOT miles...KM's....so i worked it out and i think its like 8mpg or worse..

thanks

pulling trouble codes

How is your truck running? You can count the sweeps on a cheap volt meter. See how to pull codes at http://www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html or www.fordfuelinjection.com under getting trouble codes?. Some say you should check for codes at the same time you change your oil. I don't have a CEL ( check engine light) on my 87 and it had codes, I don't have a warning lite of any kind. I think your codes will all be three digits. Mine were all two digits.
